About Us

​

The role of the Biosafety Committee is to advise and assist the Director and Deputy Directors of the Institute of Biology in the management of safety concerns related to biological risks. The committee coordinates with teaching and research laboratories to ensure that lab activities are conducted safely. The Biosafety Committee also facilitates risk assessments of laboratories and conducts regular seminars on biosafety management to incoming thesis students and new lab personnel.

Safety, Health and Environment Policy

​

The Institute of Biology is committed in protecting the safety, health, and immediate environment of its faculty, staff, students, and guests. The Institute believes that providing a safe and healthy environment to its members is part of its mandate, and key towards achieving its goal as an institute of academic and research excellence. To manifest this commitment, the Institute will:

​

1. Comply with safety, health, and environment laws and regulations of relevant government agencies;

​

2. Establish policies and programs that promote a safe and healthy environment; 

​

Specifically, the Institute of Biology will promote:

​

a. Waste management and pollution control measures consistent with government regulations;

​

b. Dialogue and openness among its members, towards issues like animal control;

​

c. Trainings and drills that will prepare its members in the event of emergencies; and

​

d. Policies that support dignity, freedom, growth, wellness, and wholeness among our students.
