The Medical Microbiology Lab conducts basic and applied researches on probiotics and on microorganisms of industrial and medical importance. It's a Biosafety Level 2 facility, that has clearance from the University of the Philippines Diliman Institutional Biosafety Committee to conduct research on selected Risk Group 2 Microorganisms with Registration Nos. 2017-05, 2017-04, and 2015-02. The lab consists of research teams, composed of graduate and undergraduate students, each working on a particular microorganism. The lab has a culture collection of bacterial and fungal isolates obtained from the research work of its members and reference strains from ATCC and BIOTECH. Lab members are regular participants in the activities of the Philippine Society of Microbiology, and have won their Best Paper Oral Competition in 2012 (professional) and 2017 (non-professional). The lab also participates in the Summer Internship Program of Philippine Science High School. (Last website update: August 7, 2022)
